Personally I'm not sure backing sides that need to win is ever the best course of action really. We have to remember that the sides that need a win haven't been good enough to get the points on the board so far, and now throw in the added expectation levels. Why are they considered better prospets now than last month, or the month before
Wales V Switzerland for instance. Yes, Switzerland "need the win", but so did Montenegro really last month, and Wales beat them 2-1. Then there's the Wales performance against England to take into consideration. They were worth a point in that game.
I remember when Scotland needed the points against Holland during the WC qualifying campaign. Holland had "nothing to play for" (another one of those overused clique's) and everyone was on Scotland. Yet Holland won 1-0. I'm sure there's other examples.
