Just when it looks like Hamels is about to take a step forward, he takes a step backward. He allowed four home runs Friday against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field. If he encounters similar problems Wednesday against the Giants, it likely would not result in a good outcome for the Phillies. They are facing Giants ace Tim Lincecum.

Giants:

Even on a night when Lincecum didn't have his best control in the early going Friday against the Cardinals, the two-time Cy Young winner still struck out eight and allowed just one run in the 4-1 win that stopped a four-game losing streak. Even if he didn't have it all flowing, his grittiness in the outing impressed his fellow teammates and showed something in itself. With runners on first and second and none out, he got Albert Pujols to pop out and Matt Holliday to ground into a double play. Lincecum has at least seven strikeouts in each start this season and boasts a 1.00 ERA.
