DENVER -- The Rockies postponed their third game in four days on Friday, yielding to a steady downpour that forced a postponement more than two hours before the start of the second game of a four-game set with the Nationals.

The game will be made up as part of a split doubleheader on Saturday, with Friday's game set for 12:10 p.m. MT and Saturday's originally scheduled game going on as planned at 6:10 p.m. The pitching matchups remain the same, with Ubaldo Jimenez going for his seventh win in the first game against Livan Hernandez, and the second game will feature Jason Hammel making his return from the disabled list and facing Luis Atilano.

It was the fourth day in a row that weather forced a change for games at Coors Field. Tuesday's game with the Phillies was canceled with rain that turned into snow on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. The two teams got in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday before canceling the second game due to returning rain. Thursday's series opener with the Nats was played under constant cold rain after a 37-minute rain delay and was ended after eight innings.

The delay keeps the Rockies from pitching their ace, Jimenez, in bad weather conditions, and could possibly help them out with a pending roster move when Hammel is activated before his game Saturday. Jeff Francis is also expected to be activated on Sunday to start the series finale against Washington.

The Rockies expect to play a man short with a 24-man roster until Hammel's return. Eric Young Jr. is unavailable, having fractured his tibia in Wednesday's game with Philadelphia, but the Rockies are not officially making a move until they are sure a game will be played, so they can keep their options open. They tentatively expect to hold off on making a move until Hammel's game Saturday evening.
