Saxat från Punters Lounge:
Port Vale in turmoil
Under Micky Adams he turned a group of relatively untalented individuals and made them into an overachieving team. He played to the players strengths and gave them self-belief.
Jim Gannon has come in and told the players that they aren't good enough and that he doesn't want promotion because we'd come straight back down. This is not hearsay. It was said in the dressing room after our away defeat at Crewe. Two players were so incensed that they had to be restrained. One (Tommy Fraser) has left on a free to Barnet and the other just happens to be our most talented player (Gary Roberts). JG has stirred things up to the extent that a lot of supporters are comparing his appointment to Cloughs at Leeds. He has even managed to alienate our Ass. Man. Geoff Horsefield and 1st Team Coach Mark Grew.
JG has changed the way that we play and in a team where we don't have a lot of goals in us, he's changed from a standard 442 to what he would like to think is an attacking 4-2-3-1. Only problem is that the "2" are both defensive playersm the wingers drift in and out of the game at best and the sole striker (J Richards) is struggling. The "hole" is filled by a young lad with obvious talent on loan from Birmingham (James O Shea).
JG's latest tactic is to lambast the supporters for our protests against the alienated, and fast becoming hated, board.
Tuesday night against Barnet we looked as bad as the side we were under Sinnott and Glover (our 2 managers before Micky Adams came) which is no surprise as it is largely the same squad.
So, we have fans who are trying to get rid of the board, a manager who has no interest in promotion, along with players AND backroom staff who have no faith in the manager.
In short, its a recipe for disaster and I really think that for the forseeable future, before the bookies cotton on, that opposing Vale will provide good value.
That said, we have had players out and I'll be interested to see what impact the returning players will have.
